Siwolen Ground Rondelle, also referred to as olum or bobimbi, are country onions known for their oval shape, resembling rings of a tropical forest plant. Following harvest, they are dried and their peel is removed before use. In Cameroon, they serve both culinary and medicinal purposes.
With a potent and pleasant aroma reminiscent of garlic, they are often called the garlic tree. Scientifically known as Afrostyrax lepidophyllus, these fruits belong to the Huaceae family and are native to Cameroon, Gabon, and Ghana. Some studies suggest that the bark extract of Afrostyrax lepidophyllus exhibits pesticidal properties.
This versatile spice is a staple in African cuisine and grilling. It offers a natural alternative to garlic and onion, devoid of artificial flavors, enhancers, or colors.
