White beans are a type of common bean, or Phaseolus vulgaris, often available dried. They are light brown with a small white eye and are harvested from a bush. They are closely related to pinto beans, black beans, cranberry beans, and kidney beans.
Some of the typical combinations for this bean in Swedish cooking includes pairing it with bacon, ham, chunks of pork, Swedish meatballs, pork sausage, potato sausage, and different vegetables. The Brown Bean is often served in soups, chili, chowders, stews, salads, and various types of bean casseroles, providing a mild and somewhat nutty taste with a rich bean flavor. Cranberry, pinto or black beans may be used as a substitute if necessary.
